Tear Down This Wall!
I see that Matthew is on the trolley. And Ed is, too! Your pal the Rake's heart is full with gladness. So much so that I cannot simply hold fast at the Mendoza Line of charity. $49 doesn't even qualify as "Haiku Donation" over at 826.
Thus, RP thrusts itself comfortably above the "Short Story Donation" level with this:
We're up to an offer of $158 and free publicity for a mere word about the Infinite Jest foreword.
Friends: Look at these faces and into your hearts and pledge generously.

Regarding Eggers changing his mind in reviewing the book: Your contest made me think of his respons in that in/famous Harvard Advocate rant (located in full here: www.armchairnews.com/freelance/eggers.html):
"Do not be critics, you people, I beg you. I was a critic and I wish I could take it all back because it came from a smelly and ignorant place in me, and spoke with a voice that was all rage and envy. Do not dismiss a book until you have written one, and do not dismiss a movie until you have made one, and do not dismiss a person until you have met them. It is a fuckload of work to be open-minded and generous and understanding and forgiving and accepting, but Christ, that is what matters. What matters is saying yes."
So, maybe he decided that was enough some time ago, and won't be justifying his smelly earlier self any more?
Just a thought.

Well, that's an interesting theory, and discussion of it would have been a valuable addition to the foreword while explaining why his critical stance shifted w/r/t Infinite Jest.
Under that sunny rubric, though, shouldn't he say "yes" to an appearance here at humble RP?
